What a phenomenal two weeks it has been for Miguel Hidalgo. The Brazilian arrived in Sardinia riding a wave of momentum after claiming silver at WTCS Yokohama a fortnight ago and following it up with a dominant victory at the Mallorca Olympic Triathlon just seven days later. In Alghero, he proved once again why he is one of the in-form athletes on the World Triathlon Championship Series circuit, securing another podium finish with a hard-fought silver medal.

Hidalgo produced a courageous performance in Sardinia. After a strong swim, he exited the water towards the front of the large lead group. Avoiding numerous crashes, the Brazilian dominated the second half of the bike, taking the biggest turns at the front and opening up a 1'15 gap on the first chase pack. Once on the run the Bianchi Pro triathlete continued his fight for glory, immediately taking over the lead of the race and pushing the pace to split the field. Unfortunately in the last kilometers, cramps began to take hold, forcing him to manage his pace and settle for silver.
